I still very well remember the day 11th September 2010 Saturday that brought me a broken wrist. I will still blame Vishal my roomie J for this accident.
The story goes this way one of my college friend Amit visited Bangalore on holiday and the plan was to visit Mysore and nearby place on a vacation. The troop was of four punks Amit, Abhishek, Vishal and me. Vishal turned it to Innovative Film city and we agreed upon it as we had not been to that place earlier.
The day before that is on 10th September we went for a movie released on that day Dabaang “Hud Hud Dabaang” and the very next day sara Dabaang nikal gaya
On 11th we started late around 11 A.M. as always Vishal Saheb ki meharbani late latif sala. We made it around 12.30 to Innovative film city and then I came to know why the plan was turned this way anyways will not discuss that in detail.
The trip started well with the mirror cage, roller coaster ride, Dinosaur park, Believe it or not museum and then came the real turn out. We all tried I would say “Leg on Experience” on Skating. Everybody fell twice or thrice will making a futile attempts but the end part came as a game changer for me. I slipped on the verge of removing my skates and the whole impact load came on right hand wrist.
Considering as minor twist and pain I thought it will go off in a day or two but kisko pata tha bhaya ye minor nahi Maha twist hai J. I even went into wave pool after that and tried to enjoyed water fun. We came back early as the pain was surging.
Vishal and I went to the hospital RxDx but yaha bhi Jhatka being a festival no orthopaedic was available only general physician. General Physician was really general; looking at the X-Ray he told me “it’s a minor distortion” and gave prescription to wrap up the band, use Volini, some pain killers and to come back on Monday to consult Orthopaedic. I went back relived not much to worry about and passed by two day with pain
Monday Morning came as Yorker to me, After looking at X-Ray Orthodpaedic told me “ Boss it’s a Broken Wrist and you need a minor surgery ASAP”. I thought “Le Lag gayi ye to, free fund me ghata”. Somehow Vishal and I concluded that it’s better to consult GE doctor before taking any decision. We went office and GE doctor came out in consensus with the Orthopaedic.
In the Evening I was in Hosmat Hospital in patient clothes, Feeling of being Patient was slowly filling in. Surgery was scheduled at 7.30 AM Tuesday morning. I did not inform at my home, lied to some that my friend is at Hospital so I need to stay, but the reverse was true apun patient tha and Vishal stayed.
On Tuesday, Ward boy came at 6 AM to wake me up. I told “Yaar ye to sone bhi nahi dete mariz ko, this is not fair”J. I went to the restroom and again here there was a comic scene I was not able to knot up the pajama. I came out holding both the ends with the left hand and yelled at Vishal “nada kaun bandhega be”J. The guy helped me out “Roomie ho to aisa”
Finally I was made to lie on the stretcher and was taken to the OT. I was dosed with general anesthesia then surgeon did all the ceremony while I lost my consciousness. I got mild consciousness at 8.45 AM everything around was blur so thought of closing eyes again. I regain it again around 9.15 AM. Ward boy told me to show my tongue as if I have eaten something while I was being operated. I did it obediently and then he asked my name I replied back again he asked for full name. I thought “yaar hath ki surgery ki hai ki dimag ki jo yaadash check kar rahe hai”. Ward boy interrogation ended with these questions as he was satisfied with my answers and I was moved out of OT.
On the way to my room I found Vishal and Mayank (My colleague) waiting outside OT . They asked me “how r u feeling”. I replied “feeling like as I have been operated”. They again asked “tu aise baat kar raha jaise pi rakhi hai”. I replied “Pi to nahi rakhi hai magar in logon ne mujhe chada jarur rakhi hai (pointing toward the glucose hanging on the side)”
Finally I made it to the room on stretcher Vishal left and Mayank followed up for the day to be with me. Slowly the effect of anesthesia started depreciating and the pain started soaring. By noon it went intolerable and I requested for pain killer. The nurse came with it and the best part of my stay in hospital was when nurse was giving a dose of pain killer with syringe. I told “Aaram se bache ki jaan mat lena” n she smiled. These smiling doses brought me some relief out of pain.
The same process went on Hemanth, Vishal, Pritesh and Ravi came on to take care of me till the time I was discharged. I was supposed to discharge on Wednesday but it look like the hospital staff was fond of me and they did not let me go till 8 PM Wednesday. Thanks to all those help me out.
I came to home with the feel of partial handicapped as I cannot move my hand for the next several days.
Now it was time to go to raipur but doctor told me that stitches can be removed after 10 days of surgery. Being an option less I stayed back and thought to go Raipur only after I am done with stitches stuff. Somehow I gave hint to my Big B that I will be coming to Raipur and I need an internet connection at home so that I can work from there, he smelled the air and asked me what’s wrong I told there is a minor injury.
Then came the day for getting rid of stitches, I never knew what kind of stitches they are and how many are there. When slowly orthopedic un-wrapped dressing over my hand, I was shocked to see that they stapled the wound. I thought “mein kya koi paper hu jo salon ne staple kar diya hai”. They started removing it one by one and I was feeling like hell and the comedy over it was, ward boy asked me “Is it paining?” Now what kind of question was that? Somehow I got over it. I was prescribed not to move my hand for next twenty days
At last I was going to Raipur. The next comedy took place at Airport when while the securities check there buzzer went up with the metallic content in my hand, I thought “Le ab ye bhi jhelo”. I had to show them discharge summary of the wonderful event and they let me go. I reached Raipur after three hour halt at Hyderabad. It was surprise and shock to my family as no body other than Big B knew about my visit and the injury.
The next scene was generated during phone call to My Sis as she was not aware of the reason. My brother informed My Sis that I liked a gal and I am here to persuade them for me getting married, everybody at home laughing around it.
Being cognizant of the tragedy, my school friend came to see me at home. I told her “itne saalo mein kabhi ghar nahi aayi to ab kyun aa rahi?” I never knew to make her to visit my home I need to be broke my wristJ.
After two weeks of rest I was back to Bangalore as there was coming up the next horrible phase of physiotherapy but before that I was supposed to consult orthopedic and I did. He told me to go for X-ray to see how the bond is now and again he made a comedy of my hand. He took a snap of my X-ray into his cell and I thought “Ye mere haat ka X-ray hai sarkar, tumhare liye trophy nahi jo tum photo liye pade ho”. I was told that I should do the exercise so that I should be able to ride a bike within a week “ye ek aur bada wala joke tha” but I didn’t realize this for long period.
First day of physiotherapy went fine without much pain and from the next day I found out what the sleepless nights are. Everyday I step inside the physiotherapist department I use to feel as if I am going to hell and there is no coming back. He use to ask me “How are you today” and everyday I use to reply “Fine till now J” and he use to laugh the way I use to answer. The great physiotherapist use to twist and turn my hand like anything and I use to laugh in a pain, he use to ask “You are crying or laughing” I use to reply “kya karu rone se dard kum nahi hota to I thought shyad husne se hojaye”.
Slowly the days passed away and after two months of physiotherapy I was fit of the fittest.
Anyways this incident brought me a great learning. How it feels to be a handicapped. I was kind of becoming ambidextrous. It brought me a great patience within. Thanks to the friends who were always there for me.
I will end the entire story with these lines
“Har dard ne ek andaz naya apnaya hai,
Mujhe mere jinda hone ka ehsas dilaya hai,
Warna kya humne kabhi khud ko aajmaya hai,
Bus khaya piya aur sustaya hai”
